What is Dread?
A heavy and anticipatory fear about something terrible that feels certain or inevitable. Unlike ordinary worry, dread is saturated with hopelessness about what is to come. It weighs on the spirit and can make it hard to function in the present moment.
When you might feel dread
Dread is a specific form of horror, which itself is a type of fear. You might experience this feeling in situations where fear is present, particularly when the circumstances align with the nuances that define dread.
